On Saturday the 19th of January 2013, the Orfanato Niños y Niñas de Cristo orphanage in La Romana, celebrated the opening of their Fonicris School based inside the orphanage, after numerous and generous members of the communities of La Romana and Casa de Campo contributed to the construction of a second floor to this wonderful educational building!

The long-awaited venture started in the year 2008 when the Orfanato Niños y Niñas de Cristo orphanage opened the first phase of their educational program, offering classes from grades 1 to 7 – a dream made possible thanks to the marvelous idea and action of building the first stage (first level) of the “Escuela Fonicris”. But many plans for this educational center were still to come…

After planning and raising the necessary funds, this wonderful orphanage directed by Sonia Hane (“mom” of the Orfanato) in the summer of 2012 started building the second floor of the school.

Finally ready on the 18th of January 2013, this new space not only offers little “niños and niñas de Cristo” (Christ’s boys and girls) an opportunity to be educated in a much wider, beautiful and comfortable place, but also the great advantage of adding one more grade (8th Grade) to their academic curriculum, as many more classrooms have now been included AND, this second phase also allows the orphanage to educate other boys and girls of La Romana in need! Excellent news!!

“We thank all of our supporters for making this dream come true!”
